The young Viennese band Mopcut is a phenomenon of extremes. Its language of improvisation is among the most original and innovative currently evolving. The key ingredients that vocalist Audrey Chen, guitarist Julien Desprez and percussionist Lukas König deploy are noise, beats and lo-fi electronics. Playful and dark, ascetic and expansive – their sharpest oppositions are like the terminals of a battery providing them with a constant stream of intense energy. Whether they move in the direction of maximalism or minimalism, every move and every development is born out of their all-encompassing soundscapes.
At the Maschinenhaus the remarkable bassist Farida Amadou will join her friends from Mopcut on stage for the first time. With roots in blues, jazz and hip-hop, Farida Amadou will add an unpredictable new dimension to the band’s force field.
