Anna Calvi
The explosive power of the multiple Mercury Prize nominee, British singer-songwriter and guitar virtuoso Anna Calvi has as little respect for genre boundaries as for heteronormative gender boundaries and stereotypes. Her music deals with personal themes such as desire, fear, intimacy and lust. At the same time, she is critical of society, attacking patriarchal dominance and the oppression of minorities. She combines feminist empowerment with humorous nonchalance and a great delight in experimentation, and she is famous for the quality of her live performances.
In her internationally-acclaimed album Hunter, released in 2018, she dives deep down into her own soul and creates a powerful yet gentle, brutal yet beautiful sound, full of pathos and theatricality. Two years later the spin-off album Hunted was released, for which she made new recordings of seven songs featuring artists such as Courtney Barnett, Julia Holter and Charlotte Gainsbourg, giving these at times opulently arranged tracks a reduced and intimate sound.
Her most recent release was the EP Tommy – the soundtrack to the sixth season of the successful British TV series Peaky Blinders and a homage to its remarkable title character.
Mina Richman
The supporting act of the evening will be the upcoming artist Mina Richman. The 25-year-old queer-feminist singer-songwriter writes songs about life as a young woman, falling in and out of love, not even getting to love and daringly crossing red lights. Her debut single Jaywalker was released in 2022. Together with her band, consisting of Friedrich Veit Ali Schnorr von Carolsfeld (electric guitar), Alex Mau (bass) and Leon Brames (drums), she is working on her debut album.
