The book is called The Happiest Man on Earth and was written by Eddie Jaku, a 100-year-old Holocaust survivor who explains the meaning of humanity.
The first sentence, ›I was born in 1920…‹ – my father Paul Brömmelmeier was also born in 1920, but he died 20 years ago. As a young man, he fought on the side of Nazi Germany and dropped bombs on London; he was a keen pilot and always said, ›The war was the best time of my whole life – after that, everything went steadily downhill...‹ Unfortunately, this is true.
How devastating to experience these biographies in parallel – how devastating!
