Raymond Briggs is British National Treasure, and so is my 90-year-old Nan (in my eyes, at least) - the woman who bought me this book.
In her own words, it’s a reflection of her life, growing up in working-class London in the 30s and onwards.
Even though there’s 60 years between my Nan and me, we share so many of the same values. What shines through every page is a disarmingly honest, intimate glimpse of her generation, and her universe - it’s unassuming, unsentimental, and it’s beautiful.
So sit down with a cup of tea, and read this in one sitting. It’s a invitation to celebrate just how wonderful people like my Nan were, are, and - of course - always will be.
