A book I like to recommend is Ministry for the future from Kim Staley Robinson.

I read it last year. Can't really tell the circumstances to be honest.

The opening chapter about a whole village in India dying in a heat wave haunted me for weeks.

The book that deals with the close ties between colonialism and climate change, is science fiction but stepping in reality. The Ministry that the title mentions, does not exist yet but much of it is already happening.
