The Ruhrtriennale 2022 has asked artist Mischa Leinkauf (*1977) for his view of special places in the Ruhr area. An artistic photo series will be created for this year's festival catalogue, among other things.

After a research phase, Leinkauf and his team, including two industrial climbers, have been travelling since Monday, 28 February, with small equipment such as two drones, to the places with special perspectives on the local (industrial) landscapes, such as the view from the wooden tower of the UNESCO World Heritage Zollverein Essen, from the roof of the town hall Castrop-Rauxel, the Ruhr University Bochum and the University of Essen. Other locations include the Aalto Music Theatre, the Opel factory in Bochum, Nordstern Colliery in Gelsenkirchen and the "Phoenix-West" site in Dortmund as well as Auguste Victoria Colliery in Marl and the Salvator Church in Duisburg.

The first behind-the-scenes footage can already be seen. Photographer Daniel Sadrowski accompanied the artist and his team in Bochum, Essen and Gelsenkirchen.

Mischa Leinkauf studied at the Kunsthochschule für Medien Köln and lives and works as a freelance artist - including as a director, filmmaker, cameraman and photographer - in Berlin. A number of his works created together with Matthias Wermke have been awarded.
