The Deutsche Akademie für Sprache und Dichtung honors the evolutionary biologist Matthias
Glaubrecht with the Sigmund Freud Prize for Scientific Prose 2023. The prize is endowed with 20,000 euros and will be awarded together with the Georg Büchner Prize on 4 November 2023 in Darmstadt.

In the jury's statement, it says: »The Deutsche Akademie für Sprache und Dichtung awards the Sigmund Freud Prize for scientific prose in 2023 to Matthias Glaubrecht, whose books provide a well founded enlightenment about the processes of life on our planet in the Anthropocene epoch. Based on his own research on biodiversity, Glaubrecht's sovereign syntheses, which take into account the most diverse fields of knowledge, repeatedly make visible the intertwining of nature and culture. With his sense also for the historical and poetic dimensions of scientific knowledge, the evolutionary biologist proves to be a brilliant stylist who continues the tradition of natural history prose in an impressive way.«

Matthias Glaubrecht will be Lukas Bärfuss' conversation partner in »Die Natur des Menschen« at the Maschinenhaus Essen on 10 September as part of the Ruhrtriennale 2023.
